We are planning to take look on Liptovska Mara and maybe Demanovska dolina on our last day in transit but now may question is about your reccomendation for Slovenski raj and surrounding area.Thanks

I recommend to find an accomodation in village Demänová in Demänovska dolina (Demänova Valley). There is a lot of possibilities: 2 caves (one of them is an ice cave), open-air museum in Havránok, Liptovská Mara lake, open-air museum in Pribilina,hiking to Siná (1560 m - it takes at about 5 hours), village Svätý Kríž with articular wooden church, thermal park Bešeňová, aquapark Tatralandia, Liptovský Hrádok with castle and manor house (with accomodation, Kvačianska dolina (Kvačany valley) with beautiful wooden mills... A LOT OF POSSIBILITIES....!

Hi, Trencianske Teplice is in the western part of the country but since you are travelling from east to west I suggest you try to see Spis castle (near Spisske podhradie) for example. It is really monumental and there is a very solid variety of undemanding trek options in the Slovensky raj mountain range located just couple of kilometres eastwards. Another option would be to go to Liptovsky Mikulas. Apart from access to Low Tatras and High Tatras there is a huge water reservoir called Liptovska mara. To the north of it there are very interesting easy scenic treks through the Kvacianska dolina and Prosiecka dolina canyons. If you then head for the Trencianske teplice you can explore couple of castles and ruins in the surrounding area (such as Trencin castle, Beckov, Tematin,...) and also feel free to visit nice scenic areas of Sulovske skaly, Vrsatecke brala or Maninska tiesnava canyon. Enjoy your stay in Slovakia!

First, thanks for your prompt response and willingness to help me and I agree that my question is general but my biggest problem is to choose a starting point:). It would be nice if it is going to be in the east Slovakia (because we are coming from Budapest and continuing to Dresden, Germany) but it is not a requirement.
What we need is a place (in wooded area if it is possible) where we would stay for 3-4 days and form where (or from the surrounding area because we will travel by car) we can organize not demanding daily tracks about 15-20 km long (round if it is possible) mainly through the backwoods .. a belvedere, a lake or castle would be a great bonus.

So more specific question could be this one : since we at the moment have no other proposal if we stay in Trenciansk Teplice will be that a good starting point and what direction can you recommend in this area?

Hermes, your question is too general... I would recommend to specify at least a region you will stay in. Check some internet sources (like slovakia.travel$ret or google) to pick some highlights and then hiking.sk community could give you some better information and insider recommendations :-)
