Next year I will be setting out to walk the entire length of the Carpathians from the Czech Republic, following the Polish-Slovakian border, crossing Ukraine and through Romania....

Cross border trails
We know that we can go across the border at Lysa Polana but are wondering if any other trails are open for crossing? From our map it appears that you can walk a trail along the Tomanovska dolina which will lead us to the Schronisko Hali Ornak. We are trying to plan a circle route in the Tatras crossing the border in 2 areas.

Booking chatas
Thanks for the english site. We are arriving in Vienna at the beginning of September and plan to do some hiking on both the Slovak and Polish sides of the Tatras. We haven"t decided which side we will start on but our plan is to walk from one side to the other. Our question is where are good locations to stay and how do we go about bookings the mountain chatas? Hopefully we don"t need to bring sleeping bags with us.

šerpa rallye 2008
Hello !
Lubomir posted this topic few monthes ago in slovak, but perhaps it was too early for an event which I understood is rather associative and not too offical... As we are nearer the possible dates, can anyone confirm me if the šerpa rallye will be 3-4 October this year, and if possible which route ?

June 15th and Schengen
Will the Tatras trails be closed till June 15th included, or not included ? Because 15th is a Sunday :( If the closure less strict nearer the date or the opposite ?
Are UIAA cardholders also concerned by the 15th June limitation if going oftrails to climb a peak ? (Strbsky Stit to be precise)
Since June 15th is the date when schengen will concretely apply to the Tatras trans-border trails, how does it look like ? TPN and TANAP had some disagreements like Kasprov Vrch, which points will remain closed and which will be opened ?

Hello !
I am french, I live in Poland and then go often to mountains (preferably the slovak ones !)
Despite I can understand some words, my slovak is not so good, so I will inaugurate this category in this website :)
I went in 2006 to Mala Fatra and loved the area.
Before going I found this map:

Having a look on it more recently, I noticed the trail "poludnové skaly" which is not shown on actual maps. I loved the Rozsutec area and I would love to try this one, but maybe it"s closed... could you tell me more ? And is it true, as i might have understood on other forums, that Rozsutec itself might be closed as well ?
